STONY POINT, NY — On Super Bowl Sunday, February 8, 2026, hundreds of brave-hearted community members are expected to plunge into the icy waters of the Hudson River as part of the 27th Annual Stony Point Seals Plunge. The event, set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Grassy Point Seawall, continues a beloved North Rockland tradition of combining adrenaline with altruism.
This year’s plunge will benefit three local children: Skyar, a six-year-old with Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome and quadriplegic cerebral palsy; Lizzie, a toddler undergoing surgeries due to complications from a cleft lip; and Aria Grace, who faces multiple procedures to treat Tetralogy of Fallot, a rare congenital heart defect. All proceeds raised will go toward supporting their ongoing medical needs and care.
Founded in 1999 by Andy Huber and a handful of local residents, the Seals began as a dare among football buddies to jump into the river after their game. When their families suggested channeling the energy for a cause, the tradition of fundraising through a frigid February swim was born. Since then, the event has grown to include hundreds of participants and spectators, becoming a hallmark of Stony Point community spirit.
There is no fee to participate in the plunge, but donations are strongly encouraged. Registration begins at 9 a.m. on-site. For those planning to attend, parking is limited, and shuttle service will be available from several locations including the commuter lot across from Fiesta Acapulco, Halligan’s parking lot by Chase Bank, and Stony Point Town Hall on Main Street. No parking will be allowed in the old U.S. Gypsum lot.
To warm up for the big event, the annual kickoff party will be held a week prior on Sunday, January 31, at noon at the Fireside Restaurant. Community members are encouraged to attend for food, fun, and fundraising.
The Stony Point Seals continue to be supported by local organizations including the Stony Point Police Department, Wayne Hose Company, and the Stony Point Ambulance Corps. They are also partnering once again with the Nam Knights of America, Hudson Valley Chapter—a motorcycle club composed largely of veterans and law enforcement—who bring additional enthusiasm and fundraising strength to the effort.
